How do I play Darts?
Darts is a very simple game. It is played by two players. Both players start with a score of 501. Players take turns to throw 3 darts. The score acheived is
decremented from the remaining score. The first player to reach EXACTLY zero wins. One of the most confusing rules for people who have never played darts is
that you must reach zero by hitting a double (a double is the outer ring of the board). For example if you require a score of 40, you must hit double 20 to win the game.
Each match is played over a number of legs, the winner is the first player to reach that number of legs.
Can I finish on the Bullseye?
Yes, this is the only exception to the 'finish on a double rule'. You may reach EXACTLY zero by hitting the bullseye, but ONLY when your score is 50.
I keep busting, what does that mean?
You 'bust' when you throw a dart which takes your score below zero (for example hitting a 20 when 18 is remaining). When you bust your score will be taken back to what it was before you threw any of your darts in the current turn/throw (3 darts).
How do I change my game name?
Press the options button on the main menu and then press the player name button.
I have changed my player name but my world ranking displays 'PLAYER', why?
The web service has a filter which does not allow offensive game names. Please check your chosen name.
Yeah but I see an offensive name on the world ranking board!
The filter cannot catch all words, if you see something you regard as offensive, send an email to john(dot)tear(at)mac(dot)com and I'll take a look.
How is my world ranking worked out?
Your world ranking is worked out over all of your stats and is not just based on the number of games you have won. It takes in to account your dart average, best checkout, lowest dart game etc. Scores are also adapted based upon the skill levels you play, opponent, x01 and crosshair speed.
Is there a free version of the game?
A lite version of the game is in the store now. This game is limited in features. This game should be downloaded for evaluation purposes. You can however play a full game of darts as many times as you like. You will be unable to select an opponent, generate a world ranking and play more than three legs per match.
Can I play games other than 501?
Yes, you can play 1001, 501 or 301. The next release (1.3.0) will also include mini-games (for example Round the Clock).
See the Future Releases page.
Can I play multiplayer games?
Not at the moment. There are no plans to make the game bluetooth/wifi multiplayer but there is plans to make an internet multiplayer version.
Can I slow the crosshair down, it's too hard?
Yes, there is an option to slow, or even speed up, the crosshair for varying levels of difficulty.
